Behind the Mic: The life of an English Voice Over

Most of my working day takes place in a space no bigger than a wardrobe. It might sound a little odd, but my Studiobricks booth is where the magic happens. Step inside, and the world goes quiet... it’s my own little bubble where every breath, pause, and inflection matters.
Waiting patiently is my trusty Neumann TLM 103 microphone. It doesn’t just capture sound, it catches the tiniest details... the smile in my voice, the lift of energy at the end of a sentence, even the stillness between words. For English voice over, that precision is everything. Paired with my SSL 2 interface and Beyerdynamic headphones, it’s a set-up that feels like an old friend: reliable, accurate, and always ready.
A smooth English voice over recording session often starts before the red light goes on. I’ll make sure the script is marked up, the pace is clear in my head, and I’ve warmed up my voice with a few tongue twisters (and plenty of tea). Once I’m settled in, it’s just me and the words... shaping them so they sound effortless, natural, and exactly what the client imagined.
From commercials to corporate explainers, each project feels a little different, but the rhythm of the booth stays the same: focus, connection, and a quiet satisfaction of completing each project.
So while the world outside keeps buzzing, in here it’s just me, the mic, and the story waiting to be told...
